Checking the Seller and the Warranty Before You Buy
On a marketplace the platform is not always the seller, and the warranty follows the goods rather than the logo on the page.
Two listings for the same product at different prices are frequently two different sellers, and the gap is often explained by something other than generosity.
What to look at
Who is selling and who is shipping. Fulfilment by the platform means the platform holds the stock and handles returns, which usually makes problems easier to resolve. A third-party seller shipping directly is not automatically worse, but the return path runs through them.
The seller's rating and how much of it is recent. A high rating from very few ratings, or from years ago, carries less weight than a merely good one earned over the last few months.
Whether the price is an outlier. A listing well under every other seller for an identical item usually has a reason: grey import, older manufacture, open box, or a bundle that differs from the pictures.
Warranty is about the import route
Manufacturer warranty in India is generally honoured on units brought in through official channels. A grey-market unit — imported outside those channels — is frequently refused at the service centre even when it is genuine and new.
This is the usual explanation for a large price gap on electronics, and the listing will rarely say so. Look for an explicit statement of India warranty and the duration.
Seller warranty is not manufacturer warranty. It means the seller will handle failures themselves, which is worth exactly as much as the seller's willingness to be reached.
Keep the invoice. Service centres ask for it, and the emailed copy is what proves the purchase date.
Before you pay
Confirm the seller, confirm India warranty and its length, and confirm that what is in the box matches what the photographs show. Two minutes.
If the price is far below everything else and none of the three questions has a clear answer, the price is the answer.
